Senior Systems Engineer

Overview : Client have an immediate need for a Senior Systems Engineer for a project located in Vienna, VA. This individual will work side-by-side with the Program Manager and the client CTO to plan and execute the enterprise roadmap for their massive architectural redesign in coordination with their open source technology refreshes. The to-be plan will include a transition to DevOps, agile, microservices, and the Cloud. This individual will be the mentor for the developers and the lead on-site technology expert. This Senior Systems Engineer will wear many hats and should have the ability to multitask easily. A thirst for learning and fixing team blockers is critical.

Responsibilities:

– Analyze and document complex As-Is architectural structure, business processes, and data flow to ensure optimization and integration for the To-Be system
– Analyze current technology infrastructure and its ability to support strategic objectives
– Analyze and suggest technical or programmatic improvements, as needed, to support strategic and operational goals
– Assist the Program Manager in translating those improvement ideas into technical solutions and avenues of business development
– Understand and communicate how changes will impact the architecture – specifically to data flows
– Collaborate with all team members to ensure proposed changes to architecture and projects are assessed and evaluated against the (As-Is and To-Be) Enterprise Architecture
– Present alternative and their impacts to customer stakeholders and leadership, while advocating a preferred course of action
– Architect project integration solutions on behalf of the platform, aligned to Enterprise Architecture design standards
– Identify and analyze asset and component needs

Human-centered tasks will include:

– Supervise the team responsible for transitioning to DevOps
– Supervise the team responsible for transitioning to the Cloud
– Work collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure end to end success
– Provide advice and guidance to the delivery teams
– Provide technical and architectural subject matter expertise to the various development teams including communicating architectural decisions and mentoring other technical staff around the various development technologies and decisions
– Interviewing candidates for technical knowledge

The average day might involve:

– Researching an appropriate workflow product for the client’s business needs that will integrate with another product
– Analyzing a path for searching content on a Drupal site with the developer
– Assisting developers with troubleshooting PostgreSQL versioning error message
– Reviewing the cloud architecture plan with the Cloud Architect
– Socializing pricing options for SharePoint alternatives with the CTO
– Assisting with the install of a system into an air-gapped network
– Fixing a fire caused by another team’s patching update, and instructing the Project Manager on the best long-term care plan in coordination with that other team

Requirements:

– Experience working with C-level executives or SES government
– Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Science, Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or Management Science, or related disciplines
– Thorough understanding or certification in Enterprise Architecture (The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF)
– 10+ years in architecture ecosystem design (5+ years with integration components)
– Implementation experience of cloud data platform technologies (Amazon Web Services)
– Linux expertise
– PowerShell scripting
– DBA expertise
– Some Windows knowledge
– Working knowledge of Node.js and JavaScript
– Active Secret Clearance or higher required
