Director of Systems Engineering


Client is actively seeking an FPGA Hardware Engineer to design, implement, and test our next generation of RF products based on Software Defined Radio technology and FPGA-based digital signal processing. Upgrading and maintaining of existing SDR products will also be required.

The successful candidate will be required to work closely with hardware, software, and systems engineers in a small-team environment. The Senior FPGA Engineer and Director of Systems Engineering will provide guidance to the FPGA Hardware Engineer on projects that are assigned.

The FPGA Hardware Engineer is responsible for designing and testing FPGA-based RF digital signal processing algorithms, including baseband processing and hardware interfacing. Other responsibilities of this position include the development of high-quality requirements specifications, functional specifications, design documents, and test documents.


Candidate should have at least 5 years of experience with FPGA-based signal processing algorithm implementations, preferably targeting Software Defined Radio implementations.

Candidate should have at least 1 year of experience with state-of-the-art Software Defined Radio architectures.

Candidate should have at least 5 years of experience integrating FPGAs into systems, including working with hardware and software developers.

Expertise in the following areas with emphasis on FPGA implementation is strongly desired: JESD204B, A/D and D/A interfacing, quadrature sampling, digital up and down conversion, NCOs, digital filtering, FFTs, Hilbert transforms, channelization, waveform generation, symbol coding, spread spectrum and multi-carrier processing and algorithms, modulations (QPSK, GMSK, QAM) and forward error correction.

Experience designing with both Altera and Xilinx FPGAs, including simulation, synthesis, and development tools is a strong plus. Experience with both VHDL and Verilog is a strong plus.

Experience with high-speed digital data busses such as PCIe is a strong plus.

Familiarity with the following analog RF components is a plus: amplifiers, mixers, attenuators, switches, bias tees, modulators, demodulators, A/Ds, and D/As.

Experience in the specification and selection of system components to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications is required.

As part of a product team, the candidate should have some experience in the design, prototyping, building, and testing of complete systems, from initial requirements all the way through to productization.

The candidate should have some familiarity with high-speed PCB board layout and design and component selection.

Candidate should have a strong understanding of embedded systems, hardware design, digital logic design, and various hardware architectures.

Previous experience rapidly developing products in a small team environment is a strong plus.

An active US government security clearance is a plus. Minimally, the candidate must be able to obtain a clearance when sponsored by Client.


Minimum BS in Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent; an MSEE or equivalent degree is a strong plus.
